Health Conditions
It is estimated that between 70 and 90% of people will experience back pain at some time in their lives. About 90% of back pain cases will resolve within 6 weeks duration. 60-80% of those resolved cases will reoccur within 2 years and a further 7% will develop ongoing chronic pain which makes back pain a significant global problem. Chiropractic is at the forefront of managing cases of back pain because it is one of the most common reasons to visit a Chiropractor.
Chiropractors do not ‘treat’ specific conditions, rather a Chiropractor looks to assess the body for area/s of neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction that produce the symptoms of a condition. Although Chiropractors do not treat the symptoms directly, they do however look to address the CAUSE of the problem. For example, in non-complicated Low Back Pain without radiculopathy (nerve pain such as sciatica), there is inflammation present within many joints and ligaments of the spine, at the intervertebral discs (such as a disc bulge), at the attachment sites of muscles, and there is weakness within the supporting muscular structures of the lower back. The inflammation and weakness are commonly due to a dysfunctional joint/s located further below in the spine which cause the irritation to the neuromusculoskeletal structures leading to symptoms such as stiffness, pain, inflammation, weakness, reduced range of motion etc.
